Robot Features -

Local or remote databases can be maintained

Robot databases can be created and accessed on local or remote volumes. A central database of all file references from multiple machines can be maintained, as well.

Shared database access with locking

Multiple users can access each Robot database simultaneously.

User definable parsing rules

File references stored by Robot within each database are created using specific rules, which can be different for each language type. This feature allows complete control over what gets stored in the Robot database. Common language keywords can be ignored.

Files are reparsed only when modified

Once configured, Robot can automatically reprocess files only when they change thus ensuring an up-to-date database of file references.

Three user interfaces

Queries to the Robot database can be made through three different interfaces: a fast command line program, a curses based screen interface with pull-down menus and a complete X windows program.

Infinite search item queries

Database queries can be as large and as complex as your available memory will allow.

 Boolean-like search construction

Queries of the database are built by entering either specific item references or by selection from a list of items that match a pattern. Items in the search can be designated as either optional, required or excluded from the files.

 Direct file viewing

The files found from a database search can be viewed quickly with each search item highlighted as it occurs in the actual file.  Searches for another string while viewing a file.  Print portions of a file or a complete file.

 Link to editor

A user-specified editor can be launched allowing direct modification of the files, even by line number, if editor supports it.

 Reports

Cross reference and context reports showing the text lines containing the search item can be generated.
